When we cleaned the house, we found many books that were no longer used. Then we collected papers that could still be used to make more books. We took it to a stationery store to have it stapled because we didn’t have a big stapler.

To beautify the stapled books, we make book covers from cross stitch embroidery. It’s easy to make so you can also make it yourself at home. Check out the tutorial below.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS CROSS STITCH BOOK COVER
Before starting to make a book cover, the first step you have to do is choose the cross stitch pattern you want. For this tutorial we chose red flowers from the 4th edition collection of 10 flower patterns which you can download for free here. If you are not interested in our pattern selection, please choose here for our other cross stitch patterns.
Next, prepare the thread that matches the pattern you chose. You don’t have to choose the exact color according to the pattern, but you can adjust it to your taste or the yarn you have.
- The tools and materials you must prepare :
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pin
- 2 pieces of cross stitch fabric 24 x 37 cm
- 2 pieces of cross stitch fabric 24 x 8 cm
- Cross stitch needle
- Cross stitch pattern
- Wool yarn

HOW TO MAKE CROSS STITCH BOOK COVER
Once the tools and materials are ready. Let’s start making cross stitch embroidery.
Step 1
Fold one cross stitch fabric (24 x 37 cm) in half as shown in the picture below.
Step 2
Look for the middle of the fabric cross stitch as shown in the picture below.
Then unfold the fabric cross stitch. Don’t let the middle part marked with the yellow needle come off.
Step 3
Before you start embroidering, you must determine the center of the cross stitch pattern you choose. You can read our article entitled step by step cross stitch for beginners here to determine the middle part.
Step 4
After you have determined the center of the cross stitch fabric and the cross stitch pattern, the next step you have to do is start embroidering. Below are some photos of the embroidery process.

Step 5
After you have finished embroidering, you can start sewing. Prepare two pieces of fabric cross stitch (24 x 8 cm) then hem one side. Like the picture below.
Step 6
The next step is to put all the parts of the book cover together. Place the embroidered fabric cross stitch on the table. Then place the two hemmed fabrics on the sides of the cross stitch embroidery. Make sure the front of the fabric is facing each other as shown in the picture below.
Next, place another fabric cross stitch (24 x 34 cm) on top. Make sure the front of the fabric is facing each other as shown in the picture below.
Next, pin the pin around the fabric cross stitch.
Sew around leaving about 6 cm. In the picture we marked the vertical position of the pin.

Step 7
After you sew, trim the edges with scissors.
Step 8
The next step is to turn the fabric cross stitch over.
Step 9
Next, sew the uncovered part.

The last step you have to do is iron the cover to make it neater.
After completing these ten steps, you now have a beautiful cross stitch book cover.
