RAFFLESIA, JASMINE, AND ORCHID CROSS STITCH

Hi, welcome back to our blog, as usual we will share one of our cross stitch projects. This time we made cross stitch of Indonesia’s National flower which includes three flowers consisting of jasmine (Jasminum sambac), orchid (Phalaenopsis amabilis), and rafflesia (Rafflesia arnoldi).

This cross stitch is one of the most difficult we’ve made so far. The process of making it is same as the other patterns, but what distinguishes it is the process of drawing it. Of these three flowers, the most difficult to draw is the rafflesia flower. Several times we changed the image and color until we get the color that we think is right as below.

To turn this sketch into a cross stitch pattern takes longer than the previous patterns. But we enjoyed every second of the process of making this pattern. You can download this cross stitch pattern for free here.

This cross stitch pattern uses 21 color of yarn. The yarn color you choose doesn’t have to match the pattern exactly. You can be creative according to your wishes or according to the color of the yarn you have.

Besides yarn you also have to prepare cross stitch fabric, needles, and scissors. Don’t forget to prepare the cross stitch fabric first so that the edges don’t come apart. There are two ways that we do so that  the edges of cross stitch fabric don’t come off when embroidered, read the article here.

If you have prepared all the tools and materials, now is the time for you to embroider. For those of you who are still beginners and are still confused about how to get started, please read the article Step by Step How to Cross Stitch for Beginners here. The following below is a photo of the process of making cross stitch.

Half finished cross stitch

Like in the process of drawing and making patterns, when embroidering rafflesia is also the most difficult part in our project this time, there are 7 yarns that must be used to embroider the flower. To make the embroidery process easier, use at least three needles so you don’t have to frequently remove and insert the yarn when changing colors.

You can save your finished cross stitch in frames or make your on frames out of paper.  Below are photos of the finished cross stitch.
