Why Free Patterns Are Great for Beginners
If you’re a beginner, especially if you’ve never done cross stitch before, using a free pattern is a great way to save money. You don’t need to buy a pattern, simply download and print it. You can even view the pattern on your phone without printing it.
Low Risk First Projects
If this is your first time creating a cross stitch project, there are two possibilities. First, you might enjoy it and want to continue. Second, you might get bored and not finish the project you started. Choosing a free pattern is a great solution if you fall into the latter category, as it saves you money on purchasing a cross stitch pattern you won’t finish.
Easy Way to Practice
This blog provides various types of cross stitch pattern themes that you can download for free. You can easily choose patterns that you can use to practice. Starting from simple patterns for beginners to complex patterns for advanced levels.
Choosing a free pattern is a great option if you are still experimenting with cross stitch embroidery.
What Makes a Pattern Beginner Friendly
Your first project should be easy, simple, and not too colorful. Using free patterns eliminates the need to purchase a pattern, so you only need 3-10 threads in different colors, which can be used for multiple patterns. If you buy a complicated pattern with a lot of thread, but you can’t finish the cross stitch embroidery or it will take a long time to finish it.
Small Design Size
Small sized patterns have the advantage of easy and simple designs, allowing you to complete them quickly. For beginners, this will keep you from getting bored and allow you to quickly move on to your next project.
Simple Color
Choosing a pattern with a small number of colors will make it easier for beginners to work on a project. This will help you avoid changing colors too often. Furthermore, if you’re only using three colors, you can use three needles simultaneously, eliminating the need to remove and reattach each needle each time you change thread.
2 things that beginners should pay attention to when choosing a pattern are the size and number of threads used.
Best Types of Free Patterns Start With
The 109 patterns we present in this article are all for beginners, with 10 themes. We’ve grouped them into two categories: simple shapes and alphabet. Both have easy designs for beginners. So, choose a pattern you like so you’ll enjoy working with it.
Simple Shapes
For the simple shapes category, you can choose from border, candy, cup, fall, flower, fruit, and leaf themes. While the patterns are simple, the designs are just as beautiful as more complex ones.
Text
There are three text themes: alphabet, bookmark, and day names. You can also create your own text by combining several letters from the alphabet patterns we provide.
To start your cross stitch project, choose a pattern that has a simple shape or is text.
How to Choose The Right Patterns
Deciding which pattern to create can sometimes be challenging because there are so many patterns you might like. To overcome this, make a list of patterns you like. Then, compare their sizes and number of colors. You can start with the smallest pattern and the one with the fewest colors.
Check Stitch Count
Besides looking at the pattern design, before deciding which pattern to choose, don’t forget to check the pattern size first.
The 109 free patterns in this article come in various sizes. However, some patterns have the same height or width. So, if you want to create more than one cross stitch, you can choose patterns with the same width or height to make it easier to prepare the cross stitch fabric.
Match to Your Skill Level
We’ve selected the patterns in this article to be suitable for beginners, so any pattern you choose will be easy to complete.
Choosing the right pattern is the first step in starting a cross stitch project.
Tips Before You Start Stitching
